Ricky Gervais is a comedy phenomenon. He came, practically from nowhere and conquered the world, in just a few years. With his friend and creating partner Stephen Merchant created The Office, the TV series that “redefined comedy”, which is already a classic. The multiple Golden Globe and BAFTA award winning show was first aired on BBC 2, (12 episodes and 2 christmas specials) has been remade in USA, The Office (US) starring Steve Carell, in Germany, in France… Their “unconfortable to watch” style of comedy, which maybe seen in an early form in the Garry Shandling’s classic TV show “The Larry Sanders Show“, will make you watch The Office, over and over again. And the second time is going to be funnier and more uncomfortable, and so on… After their success of The Office, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant created EXTRAS. This EMMY and BAFTA award winning all star show (huge stars like Samuel Jackson, Kate Winslet, Orlando Bloom, Ben Stiller, play roles in the sitcom) is about extras and the dark side of fame, and of course a hopeless agent. Oh, and Barry from Eastenders. He introduced us to Karl Pilkigton (an idiot or a genius?), the producer of their XFM Radio show, a show which has a cult following (check out http://www.pilkipedia.co.uk) and which was followed by a series of podcasts, which have entered into the Guiness Book of World Records, as the most downloaded podcasts in the world. He also created FLANIMALS, and three brilliantly, very politically incorrect, hilarious stand up shows, Animals (2003), Politics (2004) and the most recent and record breaking Fame (2007). And he has only just began… so try to keep up with him!
