Chris Morris has been described as a ‘comedy genius’, and rightfully so. He’s one of the most revered and a unique figures of the ‘new generation’ of comedians. Chris Morris fronted the spoof current affairs shows The Day Today, produced by Armando Iannucci. In this ground breaking series Steve Coogan introduced characters like Alan Partridge and Paul Calf to the viewing public, and brought together many of today’s edgy comedians. In the series Brass Eye, Chris Morris brought his comedy up to a new level and it is his most controversial work to date. It offended a LOT of people. The 2001 one-off Brass Eye special about Paedophilia, was the second most complained-about programme in the Independent Television Commission’s history (number one was Martin Scorcese’s film The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis published in 1951. Note: The Last Temptation was included by the Roman Catholic Church in the Index of Prohibited Books). Around 2000 complaints (and approximately 3000 calls of support) were received regarding the show, and some politicians hastily spoke out against Morris. You must check out Why Bother?, a series of five 10-minute long radio interviews for BBC Radio 3, between Chris Morris and Peter Cook’s character Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling in 1994. The shows were improvised!

Armando Iannucci is one of the most lauded personalities of recent times in British comedy. He is a writer, satirist, a brilliant absurdist, a producer, and a perfomer. Iannucci has an extensive history in British radio and television. He first brought together comics such as Steve Coogan, Chris Morris, Stewart Lee, Peter Baynham, Rebecca Front, Richard Herring, creating a new style of comedy. Created and produced brilliant shows such as The Day Today, Knowing Me, Knowing You… with Alan Partridge, I’m Alan Partridge, and the most recent Time Trumpet, The Thick of It. His radio stuff are also addicting. Time Trumpet is a mockumentary set in the year 2031 and interviews people of “our time” about things humanity supposedly has already seen and experienced. The series pushes to new limits of imagination and absurdity. The unique Armando Iannucci Shows are very hard to describe, there’s nothing similar to them. Some of his quotes from the shows are

“They all say there’s no smoke without fire, but neither is there any fire without one of these, a damages claim form! ZuZaZa!”
