Chris Morris has been described as a ‘comedy genius’, and rightfully so. He’s one of the most revered and a unique figures of the ‘new generation’ of comedians. Chris Morris fronted the spoof current affairs shows The Day Today, produced by Armando Iannucci. In this ground breaking series Steve Coogan introduced characters like Alan Partridge and Paul Calf to the viewing public, and brought together many of today’s edgy comedians. In the series Brass Eye, Chris Morris brought his comedy up to a new level and it is his most controversial work to date. It offended a LOT of people. The 2001 one-off Brass Eye special about Paedophilia, was the second most complained-about programme in the Independent Television Commission’s history (number one was Martin Scorcese’s film The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis published in 1951. Note: The Last Temptation was included by the Roman Catholic Church in the Index of Prohibited Books). Around 2000 complaints (and approximately 3000 calls of support) were received regarding the show, and some politicians hastily spoke out against Morris.
